The Start

Shelbyville Road Plaza, nestled in the heart of St. Matthews, stands as a cornerstone of local shopping activity. Being home to household brands like Nike and Ross, as well as local businesses like Genesis Diamonds and Quest Outdoors, the plaza is highly-trafficked.

But even beloved spaces need revitalization from time to time.

Recognizing an opportunity to enhance the plaza's appeal, we partnered with management to take the property up a notch.

Clean Up

Our first step was clearing the flower beds of debris and weeds. With precision and care, we meticulously tended to each of the 20-plus raised flower beds that line the sidewalks throughout the shopping center.

Next, older plant material that was damaged by the extreme winter a couple years ago were removed from flower beds, making way for a new wave. Our team selected various shrubs that will thrive in the plaza’s environment and be visually captivating.

The Pros at Work

At the entrance to the plaza, we removed several declining plants from two large flower beds. We also shrank the beds with sod to reduce legacy costs of mulching and weeding.

We then added blue point juniper for vertical interest, and dwarf golden arborvitae to bring color year-round through the foliage. These plants were chosen to not interfere with the visual appeal of the entry signage. Lastly, we added roses and scaevola for perennial and annual color.

In raised planters throughout the property, we installed serviceberry trees and a variety of foundational shrubs, then added begonias for a taller pop of color. We also added wave petunias to create a waterfall of color flowing out of the planters.

Finally, a black hardwood mulch was applied to the flower beds, providing a polished appearance and serving as a practical solution for moisture retention and weed suppression.

Landscaping makes an impression, whether you're tending to it or not. So, let’s make it a good one.

Our Pros love what they do and it shows in the quality of work.
